Olsten Staffing Services is currently assisting a local client in their search to fill an Operation Technician Position in the Little River area.Construction Utility Worker GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:Performs unskilled work in the installation and construction of water and sewer lines and appurtenances; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.TYPICAL TASKS:Works as a member of a crew installing and repairing water and sewer lines;Helps make water and sewer taps and service connections; makes bores;Keeps trucks stocked with necessary equipment, supplies and fuel;Backfills ditch after repair has been completed;Locates and installs valves; draws small maps of valve locations;May operate trucks, tractors, back-hoe, air hammer, tapping machine and mechanical equipment in connection with the above tasks;Installs fire hydrants; Performs landscaping on property after work is completed.Performs related tasks as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Some knowledge of the tools, materials and equipment used in the installation, replacement, maintenance and repair of water and/or sewer lines; some knowledge of a variety of maintenance and manual tasks involved in the installation, maintenance, repair and replacement of water and/or sewer lines and appurtenances; some knowledge in the use of common hand and power tools; some knowledge of the safe use and operation and preventive maintenance of common automotive and mechanical equipment; ability to perform manual and semi-skilled labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions.Physical Requirements:Be physically able to operate a variety of tools and equipment, Must be able to push, stoop, lift, pull, reach, kneel, crouch, carry or otherwise move objects. Work involves walking or standing for periods of time. Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 50 pounds frequently, and lift up to 100 pounds occasionally. No impairing medication for heavy equipment operation.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in the maintenance, repair and/or construction of water and sewer lines.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Possession of valid driver?s license issued by the State of South Carolina. Possession of valid Commercial Driver?s License within 6 months of hire.
